The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) recently garnered attention when national co-chair Megan Romer confirmed the organization’s advocacy for several controversial policy changes during an interview on Fox News.

DSA’s Policy Stance

In a discussion with Shannon Bream, Romer acknowledged the DSA’s platform goals which include dismantling American institutions like the Senate, presidency, and Supreme Court. Romer stated the DSA also supports abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, eliminating national borders, and providing amnesty to undocumented individuals. The organization proposes defunding the Pentagon and eliminating prisons, aiming for public ownership of large corporations long-term. Conservative figures and politicians criticized Romer’s comments. Senator Ted Cruz labeled the ideas as ‘insane,’ while GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed concern about the implications of such policies, accusing Democrats of embracing communism. Actress Patricia Heaton succinctly responded with ‘Yikes.’

Other Republicans also voiced concerns. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise cautioned against the growing influence of DSA-supported candidates. Rep. Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany compared Romer’s remarks to those of Francesca Hong, a Democratic socialist in Wisconsin.

The Virginia GOP has urged Democrats to disavow DSA policies if they do not support them. Meanwhile, GOP Tennessee Rep. Chuck Fleischmann expressed alarm over efforts to undermine American values, urging citizens to defend the nation’s core principles.

Sen. John Fetterman, while critical, questioned why Democrats haven’t denounced DSA views more strongly. Businessman Bill Ackman challenged the notion of supporting Democratic Socialists, calling their approach anarchistic.
