Cost Comparison for Knicks Fans Attending NBA Finals

3 weeks ago 0

New York Knicks fans might find it more economical to fly to San Antonio for an NBA Finals game than to attend one at Madison Square Garden (MSG). Current ticket prices for a Knicks home game at MSG are nearing $4,000 each. This price discrepancy was highlighted by CNN, just before Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Analyst Matt Egan explained the cost difference, noting that attending games in San Antonio can be far cheaper. “Flying to San Antonio for a game is absolutely cheaper,” he noted. A hotel stay in San Antonio for several nights costs around $600. A round trip flight is approximately $700. This allows fans to attend both Game 1 and Game 2 of the NBA Finals in San Antonio, spending a total of about $3,100. That’s significantly less than the nearly $4,000 for a single game at MSG. Plus, fans get to spend time in Texas.

According to Egan, some Knicks fans have already taken advantage of this situation. Data indicates that 30% of Game 2 ticket purchases in San Antonio were from buyers with New York ZIP codes. For Games 1 and 2 in San Antonio, the cheapest tickets range from around $750 to $1,100, respectively.

In contrast, CNN reports that near-courtside seats at MSG, near Celebrity Row, are listed as high as $220,000 each. “Even affluent fans are finding themselves priced out,” Sal Galatioto, president of Galatioto Sports Partners, told CNN. “I’m a Knicks fan, but I wouldn’t spend $100,000 on a game.”

This enthusiasm reflects the excitement about the Knicks reaching the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999. If the series extends to Game 6, held at MSG, ticket prices could rise even further. There is notable enthusiasm due to the Knicks’ long-awaited performance and Spurs’ star player Victor Wembanyama, a 22-year-old emerging talent.

Matt Ferrel, head of marketing at TickPick, observed, “The NBA Finals at the Garden are experiencing a Super Bowl-level rise in prices. I’ve never seen something like this before.” President Donald Trump also announced plans to attend an NBA Finals game at MSG, possibly for Game 3.

The Knicks are currently +155 underdogs in the series. Writer Bobby Burack from OutKick covers this story.
