The Dallas Cowboys secured a 34-30 victory over the Houston Texans, rebounding from a previous loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Key to this win was the connection between quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Lamb recorded 189 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Prescott completed 32 out of 45 passes for 335 yards, including the touchdown to Lamb.
This win marked a significant career milestone for Prescott, tying him with Roger Staubach for the second-most wins in Cowboys history. Both stars stand at 85 victories. Staubach, who achieved this mark years ago, went on to win two Super Bowls and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. These are goals Prescott aims to reach during his career in the NFL.
Prescott is currently chasing the Cowboys’ all-time wins leader, Troy Aikman, who finished his career with 94 wins. Aikman, a three-time Super Bowl champion, is also enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Prescott needs nine more wins to tie Aikman’s record and ten to surpass it. With the team now at a 2-2 record, Prescott’s pursuit of the record will hinge on the team’s performance throughout the season.
The Cowboys next face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 8. Tampa Bay, yet to secure a win this season, will start rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels while Baker Mayfield recovers from a thumb injury. Prescott emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum, saying, “We gotta get back tomorrow at it. It’s gonna be a quick turnaround. Use this momentum, use what we did in the second half, and just keep going.”
Following the Buccaneers game, the Cowboys schedule sees them visiting the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles. Both teams currently hold a 2-2 record. The Cowboys will then welcome the Arizona Cardinals, who stand at 1-3, back to their home field on November 1.
For Prescott to become the all-time wins leader this season, the Cowboys need 11 wins to tie and 12 to claim the record outright. If not achieved this season, a healthy Prescott is projected to capture the record in the 2027 NFL season.
