‘Schitt’s Creek’ star Dan Levy criticized Shane Gillis for his controversial comments during a ‘Saturday Night Live’ appearance. Gillis joked about women’s gym clothing, which Levy argued was misogynistic and contributed to a harmful environment.
Levy, who hosted ‘SNL’ in 2021, posted an Instagram video expressing his disapproval of Gillis’ remarks. He urged men to challenge such comments to prevent fostering a culture where women face sexual assault. ‘I’m speechless that something like that can exist on live national television,’ Levy remarked. He emphasized the need for men to oppose complacency and called for a shift in how women are perceived and treated.
Levy stated, ‘More men need to stand up against this because complacency has created the environment where women are sexually assaulted.’
While hosting ‘SNL’ for the third time, Shane Gillis commented on women’s gym attire, describing it in derogatory terms and making crude jokes. He mentioned, ‘Have you seen the shorts? They’re those neon, like, artificial bait-colored [shorts],’ highlighting exaggerated stereotypes which Levy found unacceptable.
Levy insisted that women’s clothing choices cannot justify being labeled derogatorily. He noted, ‘Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores.’ He expressed the view that Gillis’ comments were misdirected and reflected broader societal issues.
Lisa Cusack, from the Don’t L.A. My Burbank PAC, responded to Levy’s criticism, suggesting that noticing revealing clothing doesn’t equate to misogyny. ‘A woman wearing a skimpy outfit isn’t necessarily a whore, and a man noticing her attire isn’t automatically a misogynist,’ Cusack stated.
Cusack added, ‘Men are going to respond in a two-dimensional way to sexualized images presented via social media.’
Levy stressed the impact of objectification in media, asserting that treating women as objects contributes to harmful attitudes. He declared, ‘They are superior human beings to men.’
The debate extended to societal perceptions on sexuality and restraint. Cusack commented on modern culture’s lack of mystery, pointing out that it diminishes romance and alters perceptions toward vulgarity.
Fox News Digital reached out to NBC and Gillis’ team for comments but received no response.
