Dennis Hastert, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, passed away at the age of 84. He died over the weekend at his home from natural causes, according to Kendall County Coroner Jacquie Purcell’s press release. Hastert held the distinction of being the longest-serving Republican Speaker.

In 2016, Hastert admitted to sexually abusing teenage boys during his tenure as a wrestling coach at Yorkville High School. This revelation led to his sentencing to 15 months in prison along with a $250,000 fine. A judge referred to him as a ‘serial child molester’ during sentencing.

Hastert represented Illinois’ 14th Congressional District for two decades, from 1987 to 2007. He served as Speaker of the House from 1999 till 2007. His political career ended in disgrace due to the hush money case connected to the abuse allegations.

This news remains a developing story with further details anticipated.
