Disneyland’s Autopia Ride Transitioning to Electric

4 days ago 0

Disneyland must replace the gas-powered engines in its Autopia ride vehicles by early next year to avoid closing the attraction. This change is in response to California’s stringent emissions regulations that must be met by February 2027, as reported by the Orange County Register.

Autopia, a classic feature since Disneyland’s opening in July 1955, remains the only original ride in Tomorrowland. An oversight by Honda, the ride’s sponsor, left the engines uncertified in 2023, according to MouseChat.

The California Air Resources Board issued a violation in 2024, resulting in a $56,250 fine for Disney. The company assures that the mistake did not harm the environment. Disney has confirmed plans to transition the ride to electric by the coming year.

In 2024, Disney shared that they are creating a plan to electrify the attraction. They are assessing technology that will enable this conversion from gas engines to clean energy sources.

Disney’s designers, known as Imagineers, are actively developing the design and engineering for these new electric vehicles. Despite being track-connected, riders can control vehicle speed, which is limited to about 6 mph.

The specific time for the ride’s temporary closure for refurbishment has not been announced. Fox News Digital is awaiting a statement from Disneyland regarding the upcoming changes.
