Dog Triggers Shotgun, Injures Woman at Nebraska Gas Station

A dog reportedly triggered a shotgun inside a truck at a Nebraska gas station, injuring a woman in a different vehicle several yards away. This incident occurred around noon at Short Stop, located at 2002 Avenue I, as local reports indicated, citing Nebraska authorities.

According to the Scottsbluff Police Department, the dog’s owner had left the vehicle to enter the store, leaving the dog inside. Another passenger was outside but stayed near the front passenger-side door. During this time, the dog moved in the rear seat area and inadvertently triggered a shotgun in the vehicle. The firearm had a live round in the chamber and discharged, authorities noted.

The blast passed through the vehicle’s front passenger-side door and injured a woman who was stopped at a nearby traffic light. She was struck in the upper part of her right arm, which was resting out of her car window at the time.

Her injuries were not considered life-threatening, and she was taken to Regional West Medical Center by a family member for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

Initial reports described the incident as involving a BB gun, but officers later confirmed it involved a shotgun. The Scottsbluff Police Department’s investigation revealed damage to the vehicle’s passenger-side door consistent with a shotgun blast.
