Dominique Malonga Makes WNBA Dunk History

Dominique Malonga’s first dunk in the WNBA was a moment of anticipation rather than surprise. The Seattle Storm center showcased her dunking prowess during Saturday night’s All-Star Game.

In the second quarter, the 6-foot-6 center capitalized on the lax defense by taking a pass from Atlanta Dream’s Angel Reese and executing a momentous dunk. This achievement marked her as the seventh player in the league’s history to dunk in an All-Star Game. According to the WNBA, Malonga, at just 20 years old, is the youngest player to accomplish this in the All-Star showcase.

Malonga is the first to dunk in an All-Star Game since legend Sylvia Fowles in 2022. Despite not dunking in her first 63 regular-season games, fans and teammates were well aware of her ability, demonstrated during her time playing in Europe and the Unrivaled league.

Malonga had shown her dunking skills shortly after being picked second overall in last year’s draft during her debut practice with the Seattle Storm. Her ability to dunk was further hinted at when her teammate, guard Flau’jae Johnson, joked she would stop speaking to Malonga if she didn’t manage a dunk in the All-Star Game.

In her sophomore WNBA season, Malonga is averaging 16.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, highlighting her significant impact on the court.
