In a highly watched election, Democrat Patty Garcia emerged victorious against her competitors: Republican Lupe Castillo, Independent Chris Getty, and Ed Hershey from the Working Class Party. This election unfolded after U.S. Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García decided against running for a fifth term.
Garcia, who previously served as his chief of staff, entered the race quietly just before the deadline, when García stepped aside last year. This unexpected decision led to criticism and a formal House resolution reprimanding the outgoing congressman.
With 91% of the estimated votes counted, Patty Garcia garnered 109,507 votes, amounting to 70.9% of the total. The 4th Congressional District in Illinois comprises parts of Cook and DuPage counties.
