Emerging Wellness Trends: Lymphatic Drainage and Ice Sculpting

42 minutes ago 0

Lymphatic drainage and ice sculpting are gaining popularity as wellness treatments. Ainsley Earhardt discussed these trends with Nancy Vega from The Shape of You Spa and internist Dr. Michael Aziz. These treatments aim to support detoxification, reduce fluid retention and bloating, and stimulate fat cell breakdown through thermogenesis.

Lymphatic Health and Proactive Healthcare

The segment highlighted the importance of lymphatic system health and the growing trend of proactive healthcare. Participants explored how managing the lymphatic system affects overall well-being.

Social media users have reported symptoms after certain wellness treatments, including massages. Commonly known as ‘massage flu,’ symptoms include aches, fatigue, and headaches. Although not medically diagnosed, health experts address these reactions.

Massage Reactions: Insights from Health Experts

W. Zach Smith, a physical therapist from Seattle, confirmed this phenomenon. He explained that applying pressure during a massage can cause bruising and soreness. Smith noted that the term ‘massage flu’ gained popularity recently.

Drew Voelsch, a chiropractor, also acknowledged these symptoms as temporary reactions. He clarified that ‘massage flu’ is a social media label, not a scientific diagnosis. Soreness and headaches are expected for 24 to 48 hours post-massage.

Dispelling Myths and Recommendations

Both experts dismissed the idea that massages release toxins. They emphasized that the body’s waste removal is handled by the liver and kidneys. To reduce discomfort, Smith advised opting for less pressure and shorter sessions.

Voelsch recommended hydration and light eating before a massage. He suggested contacting a doctor for persistent or severe symptoms, like fever or radiating pain.

Overall, mild soreness post-massage is normal, but unmanageable pain should prompt seeking medical advice.
