In front of over 80,000 spectators, Bellingham surprised many, scoring two goals within 98 seconds during the first half. His header in the 36th minute, followed by a deft finish in the 38th minute assisted by Kane, took England ahead.

Mexico responded with Julián Quiñones finding the net in the 42nd minute. The dynamics shifted after England’s Jarell Quansah received a red card in the 54th minute for a foul on Jesús Gallardo, leaving England at a numerical disadvantage.

Despite being down to 10 men, England won a penalty due to a challenge by Mexican goalkeeper Raúl Rangel. Kane capitalized on this opportunity, marking his sixth goal in the tournament. This achievement ties him with Gerd Müller of West Germany for fifth place in all-time World Cup scoring.

Kane’s subsequent foul led to a penalty for Mexico. Raúl Jiménez converted it successfully, reducing England’s lead to 3-2. However, despite relentless pressure from Mexico for the remainder of the match and in stoppage time, England’s defense stood firm, aided by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Mexico’s attempt to reach the quarterfinals fell short. They have been unable to advance past the round of 16 since 1986, experiencing eight eliminations at this stage, failing in the group stage in 2022, and facing disqualification in 1990.

England will face Norway in Miami Gardens, Florida, for a semifinal spot, continuing their World Cup campaign.
