Emergency officials in towns around San Antonio raced to rescue people stranded by rising floodwaters as roads turned into rivers on Wednesday. The ongoing heavy rainfall has prompted urgent rescue operations and flood warnings.

Areas Affected by Floods and Tornado

A tornado was sighted in San Antonio, while heavy rains caused significant flooding in Uvalde and Harris counties. Over Tuesday and Wednesday, these regions experienced alarming weather conditions intensified by continued rain.

Rescue Efforts in Uvalde

In Uvalde County, Commissioner Roy Coachman reported that 25 rescues took place by 9 a.m. on Wednesday due to increasing river levels. First responders were actively helping residents in the northern area of the county.

The Uvalde Police Department noted that although a dam in the north remained intact, the river gauge above Uvalde along the Leona River registered a 20-foot water level, expected to rise an additional 15 feet.

Residents along the Leona River were advised to seek higher ground immediately.

Emergency Situation in Boerne

North of San Antonio in Boerne, the National Weather Service declared a flood emergency. The city faced up to 12 inches of rainfall with expectations of more, causing significant water coverage on Main Street.

High water rescues were underway for Boerne’s population of 12,314 as emergency services worked to ensure safety amidst the ongoing weather crisis.
