The annual event, Grapes on the Green, has become a beloved summer tradition for Northbrook residents. This year’s event returns for its fourth edition on June 20, taking place at Village Green Park. The event is organized by the Village of Northbrook and the Northbrook Park District.
Adults can gather from 4 to 8 p.m. to enjoy an evening of wine tastings, games, light bites, and live music. Guitarist and vocalist Peter Warren will offer performances that include jazz, bossa nova, instrumentals, and contemporary music.
Mike Goodman, Northbrook Park District Board President, emphasized the event’s popularity. He noted, “We created this event in response to the community’s desire for adults-only events, and it’s been exciting to see people respond with such enthusiasm year after year.”
As Northbrook commemorates its 125th anniversary this year, Village President Kathryn Ciesla hailed the event as a showcase of community spirit. She remarked that it “brings people together in the heart of our community,” capturing the vibrant spirit of the village.
In previous years, the event attracted hundreds to Village Green Park, located at the intersection of Shermer and Meadow Roads. Tickets for wine tasting are priced at $49 and include 12 one-ounce wine samples poured by Chicago Wine, a family-owned retail store. Attendees will also receive a tote bag with a signature wine glass featuring the 125th anniversary logo and a snack box with chocolates, crackers, dried fruit, and nuts.
Mike Widmaier, co-owner of Chicago Wine, shared his excitement about the event. He has been involved since its inception, pouring wine for the attendees. “When I put together all of my tastings, whether for the store or an event like this, I try to offer a variety of styles and wines from around the world,” he said.
This year’s selection includes nine wine varieties, such as the 2021 Torres ‘Gran Coronas’ Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva from Spain and the 2025 La Croix Rose from Provence, France. Widmaier also highlighted a “sparkling rose from California, the Mirabelle Brut Rose,” and a “beautiful little pinot grigio from Elena Walch from Italy.”
For those not interested in tasting, non-tasting tickets are available for $30 and include the event’s featured items. Only adults over 21 can attend, and no infants, children, pets, or outside beverages are allowed. Limited seating prompts attendees to bring chairs or blankets.
