The stakes were high on Saturday, as No. 2 Georgia faced off against No. 12 Ole Miss. Mutual respect was evident between Georgia’s coach Kirby Smart and Ole Miss’s coach Pete Golding.

“Pete has done a tremendous job,” said Smart prior to the game.

Golding also complimented Smart, calling him and his staff “the gold standard in college football.”

Once the game started, Georgia demonstrated its prowess. Georgia took a quick lead, converting their early advantage into a 28-0 score by halftime, and pushed it further to 35-0 by the third quarter.

The Bulldogs secured a 42-7 victory, marking Ole Miss’s largest home defeat since a 2018 loss to Alabama.

Frustration among Ole Miss fans erupted when the referees penalized the Rebels for pass interference with five minutes remaining in the second quarter. At that time, Ole Miss was down 21-0, and some fans resorted to throwing trash onto the field.

Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton excelled, throwing four touchdowns in the first three quarters, while Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was unable to find the end zone and threw an interception.

Ole Miss scored with an 8-yard run by running back Shekai Mills-Knight, narrowing the gap to 35-7.

Georgia’s rush, led by Nate Frazier, Dwight Phillips Jr., and Bo Walker, was effective. This trio had accumulated 19 touchdowns before this game, and their combined efforts lifted some of the pressure off Stockton, who had over 1,600 passing yards and 17 touchdowns prior to the game.

Frazier was particularly impressive, rushing for 107 yards against Ole Miss.

Looking ahead, Georgia will play Missouri in Athens next week, while Ole Miss is set to face Oklahoma in Norman in Week 11.
