Global Tensions Rise as Arms-Control Agreements Fade

58 minutes ago 0

South Korea and Japan are now considering developing nuclear weapons. This development comes as important arms-control treaties expire. The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) has lapsed, increasing uncertainty.

These changes in the global landscape raise significant concerns. China currently resists engaging in discussions on arms control. This reluctance adds complexity to the situation.

The world is edging closer to the brink of a nuclear arms race. Previously, many countries opposed the idea of acquiring nuclear capabilities. However, they are now reconsidering their positions due to shifts in international dynamics.

The Doomsday Clock, a symbolic indicator of global threat levels, reflects this urgency. It now stands at 85 seconds to midnight. This is the closest to the symbolic hour of the apocalypse it has ever been.
