Grant Bowen: A Rising Star in IC Catholic Football

Grant Bowen, a standout junior at IC Catholic, excels as both a tight end and outside linebacker. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 205 pounds, he has received 38 Division I offers. This includes schools like Indiana, Texas, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Alabama.

Bowen appreciates the opportunity to engage with various college coaches. He values the insight from his father, Matt Bowen, a former NFL safety now coaching at IC Catholic.

“It’s beneficial having Dad’s guidance,” Grant Bowen stated. “Football has been central in my life.”

Grant Bowen also plays basketball and previously competed in baseball, track, and soccer. His father believes participating in multiple sports has enhanced his abilities. “He has always been an explosive athlete,” Matt Bowen said.

With excellent coaching at IC Catholic, Grant Bowen continues to grow. He shares a strong bond with his father, also his coach. “Coaching your son is rewarding,” Matt Bowen shared.

Throughout their journey, the team has benefitted too. “Coach Bowen is great,” said senior quarterback Nate Lang. “Everyone relates well to Grant and his father.”

In his third varsity season, Grant Bowen shines. Last year, as a sophomore, he recorded 34 catches for 731 yards and made significant defensive contributions.

For the current, undefeated Knights (5-0), he has 24 catches for 486 yards and has been instrumental on defense.

Head coach Bill Krefft praises Bowen’s skills, noting he stands out with his combination of physical talent and football IQ. “Grant distinguishes himself in ways I have not seen before,” Krefft observed.

The Knights aim for another state title, with Grant Bowen as a key player. He intends to narrow down his college choices after the season.

The recruitment process challenges athletes, but Grant Bowen remains grateful for his father’s support. “He’s a great resource. We discuss both NFL and our team’s football,” Grant Bowen said.

Matt Bowen notes recruiting starts earlier now, adding pressure. Grant Bowen handles conversations with coaches and coordinators maturely. “He manages it all with maturity,” Matt Bowen said proudly.

Looking forward, coaches anticipate Bowen’s growth. “He can be an impact player in college,” Matt Bowen remarked.

Bowen’s aspiration aligns with his father’s career path. “I aim to reach the NFL,” Grant Bowen said. For now, his focus remains on helping IC Catholic compete for a state title.

Coach Krefft appreciates having Grant Bowen in the team for another season and a half. “He plays like a pro already,” Krefft said.

Matt Bowen treasures the experience coaching his son. “It’s been immensely rewarding, and it passes quickly,” he reflected.
