The house of the famed baker Marjorie Johnson, who passed away at 106, is now on the market. This home, built in 1968, is renowned for its original fixtures and custom-designed kitchen, all meticulously maintained for over fifty years.

Marjorie Johnson’s Baking Legacy

Marjorie Johnson, from Robbinsdale, Minnesota, began her journey into competitive baking at 55. In 1974, she entered four items in the Minnesota State Fair, earning three ribbons. Over her lifetime, she won over 3,000 fair ribbons and became a national television figure known as the “Blue Ribbon Baker.” Her appearances included “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Her cookbook, “The Road to Blue Ribbon Baking: With Marjorie,” features a foreword by Rosie O’Donnell.

The Minnesota State Fair honored her legacy by introducing the Marjorie Johnson Honey Bee Award for the best honey sweet rolls, a testament to her influence.

Johnson’s Dream Home

This 5,100-square-foot lakefront property is for sale for the first time. Johnson, who stood at 4 feet 9 inches, designed features like low countertops to suit her height. The powder-blue kitchen has extra storage and is filled with cabinets for all baking needs.

Daughter Marilee Wheaton shared, “This was my mom’s dream house.” The home features six bedrooms, four bathrooms, an indoor pool, a second kitchen, and a three-season room overlooking Crystal Lake.

Nostalgia and Elegance Preserved

Vintage elements like shag carpet and floral wallpaper remain, giving the house a classic feel. The listing agent, Jeanne LeVasseur, remarked on the pristine condition of the chrome and tiles, noting they still function perfectly.

Johnson’s upbeat personality and energy were well known. “Everybody who wants to feel good and not die in their 60s, 70s, and 80s has to think positive,” she shared. Her positive outlook translated into her baking and home life.

The House on the Market

Listed at $665,000, the family has received multiple offers, hoping to choose a new owner soon. Wheaton said, “It is a blue-ribbon house and it is absolutely my mom’s dream house.” She hopes someone will cherish it as much as her mother did.
