The House Ethics Committee has initiated an investigation into Rep. Jimmy Gomez, a Democrat from California, concerning allegations of sexual misconduct. The committee, responsible for monitoring the conduct of House members, announced its probe on Monday, citing allegations of inappropriate sexual contact involving a House staffer.
This marks another instance of a lawmaker facing accusations related to conduct with aides, highlighting ongoing concerns about workplace behavior and interaction rules within Congress.
Gomez, a member of Congress since 2017, established and leads the Congressional Dads Caucus, which aims to promote the involvement of fathers both at home and in legislative roles. He is married with one child.
Fox News Digital reached out to Gomez’s spokesperson for comments; however, no immediate response was provided. The Ethics Committee typically does not disclose detailed information until a final report is issued, emphasizing that current allegations do not confirm misconduct.
In a similar investigation, the committee had previously published a report outlining allegations against Rep. Chuck Edwards, a Republican from North Carolina. This report led to recommendations for censure, though Edwards denied the accusations and ultimately withdrew from his re-election campaign.
Media reports from earlier in the year described an incident involving Gomez and a younger congressional aide in 2023. In an interview with CNN, Gomez acknowledged past mistakes within his personal life, characterizing them as consensual but regrettable.
