Jason Dohring, known for his role in Veronica Mars, has shifted his focus from acting to farming. During an appearance on the “Don’t Do Nothing” podcast, the 44-year-old actor expressed how he developed an interest in gardening around four years ago. “I’m just going to go farm for a minute,” he told his agents.
Initially starting in Los Angeles, Dohring has established three farms over the past few years. He expanded to a 14-acre farm in West Virginia, where he planted about 4,000 trees, including apples, cherries, pears, peaches, and nectarines. Most of these trees, approximately 3,500, were planted by Dohring himself.
“People are getting sick from the food that they’re eating,” Dohring said, explaining his motivation for developing the farms.
Currently, Dohring resides on an 11-acre farm in Florida with his wife, Lauren Kutner, and their four children. He chose Florida for its favorable weather conditions compared to California, where water shortages were a challenge. “L.A. is crazy,” Dohring noted about the dry conditions. In Florida, the abundance of rain and resources allows for sustainable farming.
On the Florida farm, Dohring employs regenerative farming methods, avoiding the use of chemicals. This method has shown positive results, as he remarked, “stuff is starting to get much better.” A recent visitor to the farm, experienced in agriculture, noted that he had never seen anything like it before, highlighting the farm’s unique approach.
Dohring initially gained recognition for his role as Logan Echolls on Veronica Mars, which aired from 2004 to 2007. He also appeared in other projects like Moonlight and The Originals. His last acting job was in 2021 on SEAL Team. Though currently focused on farming, Dohring mentioned he might return to acting, having recently worked on a short film for a friend.
“I love art, and when I get around art, even talking about this is exciting to me,” Dohring said, reflecting on his passion for creation.
Jason Dohring married Lauren Kutner in 2004, having met and formed a friendship in high school. Their long-lasting marriage has been built on this strong foundation. Together, they have four children: son Owen and daughters Lily, Ainsley Mae, and Isla Avery. Celebrating their 20th anniversary, Dohring expressed on Instagram, “We have had an amazing life together, including raising four incredible children. I consider her my best friend.”
