Jayden Daniels Faces Online Criticism Over Cease-and-Desist Letter

Although the regular season has yet to commence, Jayden Daniels is already experiencing pressure from an unexpected source. The New York Mets are among those mocking the Washington Commanders’ star quarterback. Recently, Daniels issued a cease-and-desist letter to LSU, his former university, over the use of his name, image, and likeness. This move has sparked reactions from various groups.

After a 4-1 victory over the Washington Nationals, the Mets poked fun at Daniels through a post on social media platform X. The Nationals, like the Commanders, are based in the DMV area. The Mets’ social media team humorously referenced the score by stating, “Stopped at 4 out of respect for Jayden Daniels.”

In 2023, Daniels won the Heisman Trophy with LSU. He and his representatives found it disrespectful when head coach Lane Kiffin allowed DJ Pickett to wear Daniels’ No. 5 jersey. Daniels addressed the issue publicly by posting on social media, expressing hopes for a private resolution. He stated, “I have been locked in on training camp and that’s been my number one focus. I have a lot of gratitude for my time at LSU and I’m proud of what my teammates and I accomplished there.” He added, “Obviously there are issues to be worked out between my team and LSU and my hope is that it will get done privately.”

My sole personal focus is on Commanders’ football. I realize the business of football is unique and I trust this can all be resolved.

Despite Daniels’ attempts to calm the situation, public backlash persists. For instance, StubHub, a ticketing service, humorously announced they would no longer sell tickets in sets of five, nodding to Daniels’ jersey number.

As the season approaches, it remains to be seen whether Daniels will encounter challenges primarily on the field rather than online.
