Expanding Fraud Task Force Efforts

“Our task force is using every tool at its disposal to end fraud once and for all,” a White House official stated. “Congress has an important role to play in cracking down on fraudsters and protecting federal programs from abuse.”

The Justice Department is expanding its Health Care Fraud Strike Force to Philadelphia, focusing on Medicare and Medicaid fraud. In efforts to combat such fraud, Pennsylvania joins several other states under scrutiny by federal and state authorities.

Recently, federal and state law enforcement charged 19 individuals tied to schemes worth over $4 million in Medicare and Medicaid claims. The Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced a plea agreement involving a defendant in a significant case linked to $1.7 million in fraudulent claims.

Under Vance’s leadership, the task force has taken significant steps to prevent taxpayer funds from falling into the wrong hands. A spokesperson for Vance highlighted these efforts as essential for advancing the administration’s “War on Fraud.”

Impact of Anti-Fraud Measures

The task force has suspended payments to several healthcare providers suspected of committing fraud across the nation. In collaboration with CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, over $1.4 billion in federal funding for home health and hospice providers has been withheld.

New data shared by the Trump administration in June revealed a dramatic increase in Medicare claims for skin substitutes from 2019 to 2025. The rise from $200 million to $14.4 billion resulted in 4,200 suspicious claims, totaling $224 million, raising concerns over financial impacts on healthcare systems.

“That’s a lot of money,” Dr. Oz commented at a news conference, noting the negative effects on hospital systems and related sectors.

President Donald Trump established this task force through an executive order in May and appointed Vance to lead. The initiative has spurred various government agencies’ efforts to root out fraud, with tangible results.
