Gymnast Jordan Chiles has announced her intention to make a comeback at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The gold medalist from the Paris Games shared the news on Wednesday, receiving a boost from NBA legend Michael Jordan. He narrated Chiles’ announcement video on Instagram, where she shared the message: “LA 2028… WHY NOT?”

The video showcases the Southern California coastline, accompanied by images of Chiles on a beach. “Why again? Because the dream is still there,” Jordan’s voice declares. “Why continue? Because there’s still more to give.”

Chiles, 25, draws her name from Michael Jordan and is closely tied to Los Angeles, having attended UCLA and competed for the Bruins’ gymnastics team. During her time with the team, she became a four-time NCAA champion. At the 2024 Paris Games, Chiles achieved a team gold medal with the U.S. She also faced controversy when an individual bronze medal was taken from her under a disputed ruling, which she continues to challenge.

Chiles was also a member of the U.S. silver-winning team at the 2020 Tokyo Games. She gained significant attention after stepping in for Simone Biles, who withdrew from the finals due to mental health considerations.

In the video released on Wednesday, Michael Jordan addresses the curiosity about Chiles’ third Olympic attempt. “When the world asks why she’s back for a third time, the answer’s simple,” he says. Chiles responds confidently, “Why not?”
