Ken Paxton Receives Strong Financial Support Amid Tight Senate Race

Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General, has gained prominent financial backing in his Senate campaign, receiving a fresh $5 million donation from MAGA Inc., President Trump’s main political action committee. Despite this, his campaign faces challenges in bridging the gap with his opponent, James Talarico.

Financial Contributions and Campaign Dynamics

According to a recent Federal Election Commission filing, MAGA Inc. contributed an additional $5 million to Paxton’s campaign. In September alone, pro-Paxton advertisements amounted to over $94 million. This demonstrates substantial support from GOP-linked groups ahead of the upcoming November contest.

Consolidated Support from National GOP

Initially, some Republican Party leaders expressed concerns over Paxton’s candidacy, favoring incumbent Senator John Cornyn during the primaries. The National Republican Senatorial Committee and Senate Majority Leader John Thune endorsed Cornyn, branding him as a ‘principled conservative.’ However, with Paxton securing the nomination backed by Trump, the party unified to ensure GOP dominance in Texas.

Paxton’s victory has ushered significant financial support from the party’s national network, evident in the millions of dollars funneled into his campaign. Prior to the latest boost, Trump’s campaign funding arm had allocated $10 million towards Paxton through Del Ray Media, a political communications firm. Additionally, groups like America PAC, led by Elon Musk, spent over $2 million backing Paxton.

The Hill reports Paxton receiving nearly $54 million from an entity tied to the Senate Leadership Fund, with Alex Latcham of SLF affirming their commitment to preserving Texas’ Republican standing.

Financial Imbalance in the Race

Despite Talarico’s initial financial advantage, the latest contributions have repositioned Paxton ahead in fundraising. FEC records reveal Talarico concluded June with $21.5 million cash on hand, contrasting Paxton’s $1.8 million at the same time.

Current Polling and Voter Sentiment

Although Paxton’s funding has surged, this hasn’t translated into strong voter support. Talarico leads in all principal polls with six weeks until midterms, fluctuating from a robust Democratic lead to a closer race on November 3.

A September poll indicated a 6-point lead for Talarico, showcasing a firm Democratic advantage. One August poll from Texas Southern University shows Talarico outpacing Paxton in significant districts.

Paxton, appearing on Fox News, expressed skepticism regarding poll accuracy, noting internal surveys show differing outcomes but acknowledge the race’s competitiveness.
