Liv Morgan Retains Title Against Iyo Sky at SummerSlam

The challenge of kicking off a major WWE event like SummerSlam is significant. Competitors in the first match must set a high standard for the hours ahead. Liv Morgan and Iyo Sky did just that at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Liv Morgan, the women’s world champion, had not defended her title recently. She also previously lost to Iyo Sky in the Queen of the Ring finals. Yet, Morgan seemed unfazed. As Sky attempted to take the fight outside the ring, Morgan swiftly turned the tables on the “Genius of the Sky.” Morgan threw Sky into the barricade and delivered a series of rib attacks before executing the Three Amigos.

Sky quickly regained control with a head kick and a missile dropkick. She then hit Morgan with a Bullet Train Attack, positioning her perfectly for a sunset-flip powerbomb outside the ring. As Sky ascended for a moonsault, Morgan’s Judgment Day allies intervened. Roxanne Perez distracted the referee while Raquel Rodriguez pulled Sky from the top rope. Despite the interference, Morgan couldn’t secure a pinfall.

Sky soon retaliated with a moonsault that took out Perez and Rodriguez. With Morgan momentarily recovering, Sky delivered a stunning Spanish Fly from the top rope. She also executed a double underhook faceplant and backbreaker, even using Morgan’s Oblivion finisher. However, Morgan remained resilient.

Sky continued with a German suplex on the apron followed by another Bullet Train Attack. When Sky attempted the Over the Moonsault, Morgan blocked with her knees. Morgan then launched a sequence of moves, hitting Oblivion, a codebreaker, and another Oblivion. This secured her victory with a three count.

Liv Morgan successfully defended her Women’s World Championship, overcoming one of her toughest opponents on the Raw roster at SummerSlam.
