A tense situation unfolded in New Jersey on Tuesday when a joint practice session between the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers came to an abrupt halt due to a medical emergency. The incident involved Jets cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers, who needed to be transported off the training field at the team’s Florham Park facility by ambulance.
ESPN reported that Stiggers received an IV while lying on the field. According to Head Coach Aaron Glenn, Stiggers approached the bench after a play and fainted, though he remained conscious afterward. Glenn commended the medical team for their response, mentioning that Stiggers was able to communicate and was generally in good condition.
The temperature in Florham Park reached 85 degrees on Tuesday, and had been nearing triple-digits over the prior weekend.
In addition to the medical concern, the practice session was quite eventful, with at least three altercations occurring. Stiggers was reportedly involved in one of these scuffles.
Stiggers, who bypassed college to play in the Fan Controlled League following high school, spent a season with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was selected by the Jets in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, marking the first time since 1999 a player was drafted straight from the CFL. Last season, Stiggers participated in 15 games, achieving 27 tackles and recovering two fumbles.
