Mike Lindell, the creator of MyPillow and a long-time supporter of Donald Trump, has announced his decision to leave his role as CEO of MyPillow. He intends to focus entirely on his campaign for governor of Minnesota. Lindell revealed on Tuesday that after more than two decades, he would step down to concentrate on the gubernatorial race.

He has also minimized his ownership stake in the company, now owning a minority position, but will retain a seat on the board of directors. His decision comes in preparation for the Minnesota Republican gubernatorial primary, with early voting already in motion for the August 11 election.

In a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, Lindell expressed, “Today, I’ve made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I’m stepping down as CEO of MyPillow so I can devote 100% of my time and energy to my campaign for Governor of Minnesota.”

Minnesota deserves my full attention, and that’s exactly what I’m giving it. I’m all in, and I can’t wait to earn your vote.

In a separate company statement, Lindell stated, “After 22 years of leading MyPillow, I know the company is ready for its next chapter and I know Minnesota cannot wait.”

This decision is not about walking away. It is about stepping forward to serve. I am putting Minnesota above myself, my title, and my business interests so I can give this campaign and the people of our state my full time, energy, and attention.

Lindell commenced his campaign for the Minnesota governorship earlier this year and has gained a prominent place among Republican candidates. His campaign gained traction following an endorsement from Trump; however, he faces competition from Kendall Qualls, who received the Minnesota Republican Party’s endorsement, and Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth.

Lindell has claimed that MyPillow generated hundreds of millions of dollars annually. Nonetheless, the company’s finances have encountered difficulties in recent years. Several major retailers discontinued carrying MyPillow products, a consequence of Lindell continuing to promote unfounded claims regarding the 2020 presidential election.

Lindell has also disclosed significant spending on election-related lawsuits and advocacy. His exact net worth remains unknown, with public estimates varying extensively due to MyPillow’s status as a privately owned entity.

Reasons for Departure

Lindell cited the necessity of focusing solely on the gubernatorial campaign as the reason for his departure from MyPillow. He noted, “Minnesota deserves my full attention,” indicating that stepping back from the company allowed him to commit entirely to the campaign.

As part of this transition, he reduced his MyPillow ownership to a minority position, though he continues to serve on the board of directors.
