A Minnesota woman, connected to the large-scale ‘Feeding Our Future’ scandal, faces new charges in a daycare fraud scheme. Authorities revealed that she gained millions through false claims involving children’s meal programs.

Fahima Egeh Mahamud is charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States. Court documents indicate her involvement in these fraudulent activities. Earlier, she was indicted for participating in the $250 million ‘Feeding Our Future’ fraud. Prosecutors allege she falsely enrolled her daycare, Future Leaders Early Learning in Minneapolis, in a federal nutrition program, claiming to provide thousands of meals.

In addition to these charges, Mahamud faces accusations of defrauding the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP). This program supports low-income families with daycare costs. Authorities claim she filed over 13,000 fake claims between October 2022 and December 2025, amassing around $4.6 million. These claims falsely stated she collected essential co-payments, necessary for federal payout.

The Future Leaders Early Learning center was spotlighted in a viral video by influencer Nick Shirley. According to FOX 9 Minneapolis, the video highlighted allegedly vacant Somali-operated childcare centers around Minneapolis and pointed to rampant fraud. This video prompted immediate federal action, involving various agencies. The response included the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services freezing about $185 million in childcare funding to Minnesota. Additionally, over 2,000 federal agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) were sent to intensify investigations in the Twin Cities area.
