Mitchell & Michaels Plat Du Jour Revamps Menu and Adds Weekend Brunch

Mitchell & Michaels Plat Du Jour, established in January 2026 in downtown Homewood, is relaunching its menu based on customer feedback from the first six months of operation. The restaurant is expanding its offerings and introducing weekend brunch hours.

Owner Chris Michaels, who co-owns the restaurant with his wife, Stacey, expressed their readiness for this new phase. Initially focused on Southern soul food, their goal now includes traditional American fare to encourage weekly visits. Michaels explained, “We’ve added burgers, pastas, and paninis based on customer suggestions.” Approximately 25 new items join the menu.

According to Michaels, the aim is to cater to both regular and special occasion dining. The restaurant operates from Wednesday to Sunday and remains closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Following the relaunch, the primary menu will be available most of the week, with a special soul food menu during weekends.

The relaunch event is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday, kicking off the new offerings. Michaels noted that this timing aligns with their initial plans for growth, requiring adjustments based on learned experiences.

Located on Dixie Highway near the Homewood Public Library, the restaurant will start offering brunches from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. After brunch hours, soul food is served. Michaels highlighted the importance of brunch, responding to customer demand.

The restaurant also features weekly live entertainment and offers its space for catered events. Michaels, who transitioned from broadcasting, initially entered the restaurant industry for the entertainment aspect. Homewood has shown strong support since the restaurant’s opening.

Michaels has strong ties to the south suburbs, having attended Thornwood High School and maintaining a connection to the area for nearly 40 years. They considered the Dixie Highway property for two years, attracted by its proximity to Homewood’s bustling downtown, which promises walk-up traffic.

Of their location choice, Michaels stated, “We’re completely, 100% satisfied with our decision to open in Homewood. We hope the community feels the same.” Reflecting on their initial plans, Michaels expressed surprise at the business’s success, noting they underestimated its potential. “We were dreaming a little too small,” he commented.
