In a decisive state semifinal at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria, junior second baseman Devin Hill led Mundelein to a commanding 13-3 victory over the defending Class 4A champion, Oswego. Mundelein secured the win in six innings on Friday.

Hill excelled at bat, going 2-for-4 and driving in three runs. He initiated the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning, followed by a two-run single in the third. These plays contributed to the Mustangs’ (23-5) significant 8-0 lead over the Panthers (22-12).

Senior center fielder Kieley Tomas added to the offensive strength, obtaining three hits and three RBIs. Junior shortstop Taylor Pyke also supported with two hits and two RBIs.

On the mound, senior ace Shae Johnson made a strong return. Having missed pitching last season due to a torn labrum, she allowed three runs, six hits, and one walk while striking out nine.

Mundelein now prepares for their first state championship game against Lincoln-Way West (29-7) on Saturday at 4:45 p.m.
