New Orleans Saints Bolster Offense with Key Signings

The New Orleans Saints made a significant move by signing former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. to a four-year contract worth $52 million during the March free agency. This acquisition led to speculation about veteran running back Alvin Kamara’s future with the team, but those rumors have been dispelled.

Kamara’s agent, Brad Cicala, confirmed that a new deal with the Saints was imminent and has now been finalized, as reported by Mike Garafolo on July 15. Cicala stated, “Alvin’s goal, and the team’s goal, was for him to remain with the Saints and retire a Saint.”

Entering his 10th NFL season, Kamara has been a cornerstone for the Saints since being drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. With five Pro Bowl appearances, Kamara is one of the league’s most versatile players, leading the Saints in career rushing yards (7,250) and rushing touchdowns (61).

Although Kamara’s 2025 season was his least productive due to ankle and knee injuries, coach Kellen Moore is expected to creatively integrate both Kamara and Etienne Jr. into the team’s strategy. In response to the changes, Kamara expressed confidence in the dual-back approach, saying, “We’ve done it here before.” He emphasized the benefit of having two talented running backs, which complicates defensive preparations.

The Saints are assembling an impressive offensive lineup. With quarterback Tyler Shough, a top contender for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and new wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, selected eighth overall in April, joining Chris Olave, the team’s prospects look promising. In the competitive NFC South, the Saints aim to make their first playoff appearance since 2020.
