The New York Knicks have accepted an invitation from the White House to commemorate their NBA championship. Owner James Dolan confirmed this on Wednesday. The visit follows an invitation extended by the White House, which the Knicks swiftly accepted. Dolan discussed these details during an appearance on WFAN New York’s “The Carton Show.” He mentioned that while specifics are yet to be ironed out, such as travel arrangements and the number of attendees, the team is poised to make the trip.
Dolan has a longstanding relationship with President Donald Trump, spanning three decades. The President attended the Knicks’ Game 3 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the playoffs. This game was the Knicks’ sole loss in a series they won 4-1, clinching the NBA Championship.
Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks’ visit to the White House remains in flux, despite winning Super Bowl LX against the New England Patriots on February 8. The White House press office provided no specifics, instructing people to check back later for more information.
The Philadelphia Eagles remain the last NFL team to enjoy a White House visit, celebrating their Super Bowl LIX win with President Trump in April 2025. Such timing was feasible due to the offseason break. In contrast, Seattle’s offseason program ended with the completion of minicamp on June 11, making it challenging to coordinate a visit.
With players dispersed for summer vacations and the team reconvening only in late July for training camp, the window for a White House visit seems closed. Given logistical challenges and the cessation of typical operations during camp time, the Seahawks may forego their celebratory visit altogether.
The looming question is whether missed communications or lack of planning caused the delay. A resolution might involve scheduling the visit during the regular NFL season. The Seahawks play the Washington Commanders on September 27, presenting a possible, though unlikely, chance for a White House stop if travel logistics allow. Yet, altering traditional team travel in-season is rare, as analysts note coaches prefer routine and emphasize the professional nature of away games.
