Norwegian Fans Bring Viking Heritage to Boston

7 days ago 0

Norwegian soccer fans are embracing their Viking heritage as they gather in Boston for their nation’s first World Cup appearance in 28 years. This lively gathering includes synchronized ‘Viking rows’ that have captivated local residents.

A video captured at Boston’s South Station shows numerous Norway supporters, some adorned with Viking helmets and Norwegian flags, engaging in synchronized rowing motions. Their collective chants of ‘Hoo! Hoo!’ gave the impression of a Viking longship crew as they ascended an escalator.

Jeremy Siegel, a journalist from WGBH in Boston, shared the video, expressing his astonishment at the unique display. “Adding this to the list of things I’ve never seen before and probably never will again,” he remarked.

The spontaneous performance quickly gained popularity online. One viewer commented, “My usual train ride suddenly feels incredibly boring compared to this.” Another observed, “This is the most Norwegian thing I’ve ever seen.” A third user expressed, “I’ve witnessed fans chant, dance, and go wild in stadiums, but rowing a Viking ship up an escalator wasn’t on my 2026 bingo card.”

Despite the enthusiasm, some viewers were concerned about the potential hazards. Questions arose about how the fans managed to keep their capes and flags from getting caught in the escalator gears. Others noted their anxiety while watching the performance unfold.

Boston has welcomed many international visitors as passionate World Cup fans bring their cultural traditions to the region. This influx includes Scottish tourists who celebrated a 1-0 victory against Haiti. On Sunday, Scottish supporters charmed locals with a festive parade to Fenway Park, coinciding with Scottish Heritage Night hosted by the Red Sox.
