Despite his defensive background, Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding faced some tough questions concerning his defense. These questions arose after the Rebels conceded 52 points to Florida three weeks ago.
Ole Miss responded by defeating Missouri 31-3, demonstrating a significant turnaround. Missouri entered the match with a strong rushing offense and a top quarterback, Austin Simmons, but Ole Miss controlled the game.
The Rebels’ defense, guided by Golding, limited Missouri to 39 rushing yards and pressured Simmons consistently. Although Simmons passed for 340 yards, he required nearly 50 attempts to reach this total.
On offense, Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss delivered when necessary, throwing three touchdowns and scoring another via a running play. The Rebels gained 257 rushing yards, thanks to Kewan Lacy and backup Makhi Frazier.
Missouri was on a path toward the College Football Playoff but the defeat to Ole Miss has altered their trajectory. Meanwhile, Ole Miss continues pursuing their objectives and next faces Texas. Following this, their schedule includes games against Georgia, Oklahoma, and Mississippi State.
Missouri will aim to recover in an upcoming game against Arkansas.
