The Baltimore Ravens created a major stir in the NFL offseason by agreeing to trade two first-round picks to the Las Vegas Raiders for star edge rusher Maxx Crosby. This deal set the stage for significant discussions and anticipation among fans and analysts alike.
However, the narrative took a surprising turn when the Ravens canceled the trade. Reports indicated that Crosby did not pass his physical, prompting Baltimore to retract their agreement. In an apparent effort to fill the void left by the nixed deal, the Ravens quickly signed Pro Bowl defensive end Trey Hendrickson. His four-year, $112 million contract was seen by many as the team’s attempt to manage the fallout from the failed trade.
The entire scenario unfolded after Crosby’s initial request for a trade earlier in the offseason. Observers anticipated ongoing tension between Crosby and the Raiders following the trade’s collapse. Contrary to these expectations, NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported a different reality.
Crosby is not participating in the Raiders’ offseason practices. Instead, he is focusing on his recovery and making notable progress.
La Canfora wrote, “Crosby has told friends around the league he is as motivated as ever to have an outstanding season, despite the public collapse of the Ravens’ trade.”
There was some speculation that the Raiders might seek another trade given Crosby’s willingness to move. Nonetheless, the general consensus now is that Crosby will remain with the Raiders, fulfilling his four-year, $116 million contract. This contract includes an option for the Raiders to cut ties in 2027.
An unnamed NFL General Manager shared insights with La Canfora, noting, “He’s going to start the season there, and he’ll likely perform at an exceptional level. They may receive trade inquiries before the deadline, but it seems unlikely that Crosby will be moved. That opportunity seems to have passed.”
