Sally Field and Others Honor Late Icons at 2026 Emmy Awards

Sally Field honored Dolly Parton’s legacy during a heartfelt tribute at the 2026 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California. Field expressed deep admiration for her ‘Steel Magnolias’ co-star. She stated, “If there are truly angels on earth, then we just lost one, Dolly Parton.” Dolly Parton passed away on August 25 at the age of 80, following a short battle with cancer, as confirmed by her representatives.

The 78th Emmy Awards in Los Angeles paid tribute to both Dolly Parton and Rob Reiner. Field shared her memories of working with Parton, highlighting her genuine nature and humor. “She was genuine, and humble, supportive and blisteringly funny,” Field said.

Reba McEntire marked the occasion with a performance of Parton’s 1983 hit, “Appalachian Memories.” McEntire’s performance resonated with the audience, as Parton was remembered for both her artistic and humanitarian contributions, particularly in her home state of Tennessee.

Dolly Parton’s passing was peaceful and she was surrounded by loved ones at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Her contributions left a significant impact both locally and nationally.

Meanwhile, Jamie Lee Curtis took the stage to remember director Rob Reiner, who passed away in December. Curtis highlighted Reiner’s kindness and humor, expressing the loss of “another cherished legend,” known affectionately as “Meathead.” In addition, Reiner’s son, Nick Reiner, faced indictment last month on serious charges.

Rob Reiner was honored posthumously at the Creative Arts Emmys for his guest role in “The Bear.” Curtis noted Reiner’s achievement of holding the record for the longest gap between acting Emmys, a record formerly held by his father, Carl Reiner.

Additionally, a tribute to Catherine O’Hara was paid by Macaulay Culkin, along with “Schitt’s Creek” stars Annie Murphy and Dan Levy. O’Hara, who passed away earlier in the year, was fondly remembered by Culkin for her warmth and humor.
