A civilian was detained at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida on Saturday after a violent encounter with security personnel. Reports from the 6th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs Office provided these details.
The incident occurred when the civilian breached the Tampa base’s perimeter around 1 p.m. An altercation with security led to non-life-threatening injuries for both the civilian and an officer, as reported by FOX 13 and WTSP-TV.
Following the breach, the base announced on Facebook that the Dale Mabry Gate would remain closed to all traffic until further notice. They advised the public to avoid the area for safety reasons.
“The Dale Mabry Gate is currently closed to inbound and outbound traffic until further notice. Please plan accordingly and avoid the Dale Mabry Gate area until further notice,” the base stated.
The Tampa Police Department blocked traffic on South Dale Mabry Highway near the base entrance, responding to a previous incident involving a suspicious package reported in March 2026.
An ongoing investigation seeks to understand the reasons behind the attack. MacDill Air Force Base, which hosts the headquarters of U.S. Central Command, did not specify the cause of the breach.
