Actress Selma Blair was arrested following claims she attempted to open an aircraft door mid-flight and assaulted two flight attendants, according to a report from TMZ.
The report stated that Blair allegedly punched and bit flight attendants during a Delta flight to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. The Port Authority reported injuries to both attendants, with one requiring hospitalization.
A representative for Blair informed Newsweek that she had a “medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.” They added that after landing, Blair received medical care and is now stable.
A Delta spokesperson confirmed to Newsweek via email that the incident took place on Flight 938 from Los Angeles to New York on October 11. They noted that law enforcement was involved upon arrival at JFK. The flight landed ahead of schedule and remained operationally unaffected.
“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” said the spokesperson.
TMZ further reported Blair faced accusations of assaulting a nurse upon being taken to a hospital for evaluation. She faces two assault charges relating to incidents involving a police officer and the nurse.
The FBI, responsible for probing all assaults on aircraft, stated to Newsweek, “Yesterday, we were informed by our partners at Port Authority Police Department of a potential assault aboard a flight that arrived into JFK.” They mentioned an ongoing investigation but declined to comment further.
Newsweek is seeking comments from TSA and Delta regarding the incident.
