Senator Cory Booker Expresses Concerns Over Maine Senate Candidate

3 weeks ago 0

Senator Cory Booker expressed concerns on Sunday regarding Graham Platner, the presumptive Democratic nominee for Senate in Maine. Recent reports revealed that Platner engaged in exchanging sexual messages with women outside his marriage, raising issues about the impact on his candidacy.

In an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” Booker addressed whether Platner’s personal history could negatively influence the Democratic Party’s chances to secure a critical Senate seat. He stated, “Yeah, I have concerns. That guy has questions to answer. And that’s what campaigns are for.”

Booker emphasized the importance of Democrats gaining control of the Senate, noting the need for oversight of what he described as an “out-of-control president” responsible for increased costs in health care, child care, and gas.

Platner, known for his energetic progressive campaign in Maine, faces scrutiny due to his past inflammatory online remarks about women and other topics. These revelations intensify Democratic worries about his electoral prospects.

On Sunday, Booker and other Senate Democrats were questioned about reports that Platner’s wife had previously informed his campaign of the messages with other women. The Republican Senate campaign arm highlighted the news, distributing reports and criticizing Platner.

Among Democrats, Booker, a former presidential candidate and potential contender for 2028, was notably uneasy. The Platner campaign did not immediately respond to Booker’s comments.

Senator Andy Kim, also a Democrat from New Jersey, stated on CNN’s “State of the Union” that he was not concentrating on the Maine race and had never met Platner. Kim added, “I will work with whoever the people of Maine elect. But I hope that they elect somebody that is going to stand up to this president.”
