Senator Kevin Cramer’s Hold on Trump Nominees Over Wetlands Policy

17 minutes ago 0

Republican Senator Kevin Cramer from North Dakota has announced a hold on future nominees from the Trump administration, citing the current wetland policy as the reason.

“The blind defense of a Biden rule favored by environmental extremists at the expense of farmers confounds me, particularly at a time when our ag producers are hurting so badly,” Cramer said in a statement shared with The Hill.

Cramer expressed his dissatisfaction with the administration’s decision to maintain a policy from the Biden era concerning wetlands. This policy aims to prevent the draining of wetlands protected under conservation easements, crucial for protecting duck habitats.

Due to this stance, Cramer announced that there will be no confirmations of nominees until changes are made.

The imposition of holds can complicate the confirmation process for nominees. It requires the Senate to invest significant time in debating and engaging in additional votes.
