Senator Urges DOJ to Investigate Abortion Pill Distribution

A Republican senator has raised concerns about a left-wing abortion group allegedly operating as a hub for shipping abortion pills into states where they are banned. This claim has sparked a call for a criminal investigation.

In a letter addressed to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Sen. Josh Hawley urged the Justice Department to investigate the group identified as Plan C. He accused the group of connecting women to abortion-pill manufacturers, foreign clinics, and online vendors that supply the pills to states with legal restrictions.

Hawley described Plan C as a ‘left-wing dark-money operation’ and referred to it as a ‘referral and logistics hub’ for the distribution of abortion drugs in states where they are prohibited. He believes the group’s actions justify a federal criminal investigation.

“At the center of the effort is an entity called Plan C,” Hawley noted, emphasizing the need for legal scrutiny.

The group is said to guide women in states like Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas towards foreign clinics that mail abortion pills to them, potentially contravening state laws. Additionally, Plan C reportedly refers individuals to online vendors providing abortion drugs without prescriptions, identification, or medical consultation, despite acknowledging that some of these drugs are not regulated or inspected by U.S. authorities.

Plan C also offers advice on limiting digital footprints by suggesting the use of privacy-focused browsers, virtual private networks, and encrypted emails. Their website warns users about potential legal repercussions for obtaining abortion pills and emphasizes individual responsibility in assessing legal risks.

Besides, Plan C allegedly directs women to providers offering abortion pills up to 14 weeks into pregnancy, surpassing the Food and Drug Administration’s approved limits for mifepristone and the legal thresholds in several states.

Hawley cited possible violations of federal laws, including the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, laws against the import of unapproved drugs, and federal conspiracy and aiding-and-abetting statutes. He called for a comprehensive investigation involving Plan C’s potential co-conspirators, foreign clinics, and online vendors.
