Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder faced a must-win situation in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals against the San Antonio Spurs. After losing the first game to the Spurs, the Thunder needed a strong performance from Gilgeous-Alexander to level the series before heading to Texas.
On Wednesday, the back-to-back MVP delivered. He scored 30 points on 12-24 shooting and added nine assists, helping his team secure the win and tie the series. The next game of the seven-part series will take place in Texas.
While Gilgeous-Alexander’s performance was impressive, his postgame interview drew more attention from fans. During the interview, he was asked about Isaiah Hartenstein’s defensive role against the Spurs’ standout player, Victor Wembanyama. In the first game, Wembanyama had dominated the Thunder with a 41-point outburst.
Gilgeous-Alexander, while maintaining a straight face, remarked, “I’m not sure if it was good, to be honest.”
NBC’s Zora Stephenson asked him to elaborate further, to which he eventually replied, “It was alright. It was good. It was good.” His comment, seemingly intended as deadpan humor, puzzled viewers online.
Gilgeous-Alexander later addressed the situation during a press conference, clarifying that he had misheard the question initially and gave a proper answer once he understood.
The series will continue with Game 3 on Friday at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio where the focus remains on whether Hartenstein can effectively hinder Wembanyama’s gameplay.
