A stabbing occurred Tuesday morning in downtown Nantucket, close to the ferry docks that welcome numerous visitors to the affluent Massachusetts island. The incident took place at 10:23 a.m. on South Beach Street, between Broad Street and Oak Street. This location is near the Steamship Authority ferry terminal, a popular area for tourists arriving on the island.
The injured individual received treatment at the scene before being transported to Nantucket Cottage Hospital by the Nantucket Fire Department. Reports indicate that the stabbing resulted from a confrontation involving the driver of a Myles Reis garbage truck and a Sayles Seafood delivery truck driver who had parked nearby.
After the incident, the victim ran towards “The Strip”, where staff from businesses like Stubby’s attempted to provide first aid using napkins. Witnesses shared these details with the Nantucket Current.
A second person connected to the stabbing was detained at the scene. By Tuesday evening, officials had not disclosed the suspect’s identity, but a court appearance was slated for Wednesday morning in Nantucket District Court. The police indicated the investigation is ongoing, with no further details released at this time.
As Nantucket enters its peak summer season, the island sees an influx of vacationers, day-trippers, seasonal workers, and affluent residents, increasing activity in normally serene areas.
