Team USA’s women’s basketball team showcased their dominance yet again by securing a gold-medal victory against France with a score of 97-79. This win marks their fifth consecutive gold medal in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and their seventh in the last eight tournaments.

The Americans faced a tough challenge in the first half, trailing behind. However, they came back strong, outscoring France 30-12 in the third quarter, which played a crucial role in sealing their victory.

Breanna Stewart led the team with a double-double performance, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Her dominance on the court was evident, shooting 70% from the field and earning the MVP title of the tournament. Stewart was a pivotal force, contributing significantly to the team’s success.

Jackie Young added 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Her efficiency was reflected in her shooting 50% from the field. Young’s performance secured her the title of the player of the game.

Caitlin Clark, coming off the bench, provided essential contributions. Though playing only about 12 minutes, she made crucial shots, including a buzzer-beater before halftime and a key 3-pointer in the fourth quarter. She finished with 12 points and three assists, playing a vital role despite not starting.

France began the game with intensity, led by Dominique Malonga, who scored 21 points, and Gabby Williams, who added 20 points. However, they struggled in the third quarter, making only four field goals. Valeriane Ayayi came closest to joining them in double figures with eight points.

The victory extends the U.S.’s gold medal tally to 12, reinforcing their consistent global success. France had previously posed a significant challenge, narrowly losing in the gold medal game at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Young talent, including Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese, alongside Clark, ensured the U.S. remained dominant throughout the tournament. While the players take a brief moment to celebrate, focus will soon shift back to the WNBA, where the playoffs approach.
