Three teenagers suffered injuries on Monday night close to a significant gathering at 57th Street Beach in the Hyde Park neighborhood. Chicago police reported the event took place at about 10 p.m. on the 1600 block of East 55th Street. An 18-year-old man, along with two 19-year-old men, were outside when they heard shots and felt pain.
The 18-year-old victim was wounded in the hand and transported to UChicago Medicine in good condition. One of the 19-year-olds sustained a leg injury and was taken to the same hospital, also in good condition. The third victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right hip and went to the hospital on his own, where he was listed in good condition.
Authorities could not confirm if there was a ‘teen takeover’ at the beach, labeling the incident simply as a large gathering. No arrests had been made at the time, and detectives were actively investigating the case.
