Russell Brand has declared he never engaged in non-consensual sexual activities amid allegations that led to his conviction. Police video, obtained by Fox News Digital, shows Brand defending his sexual history during questioning by London’s Metropolitan Police.
In a December 2023 interview, Brand, age 51, sat with his attorney. He read a prepared statement to detectives, insisting his interactions were consensual.
“I led a promiscuous life in the past, which I’ve denounced openly over the years. I’ve never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity,” Brand stated.
He criticized media investigations from September 2023 that brought these allegations to light. Brand labeled the reports as “defamatory and fictitious,” claiming consensual encounters were presented as misconduct.
In the interview, Brand admitted to not remembering the complainants’ names or meeting them. Yet, he acknowledged the possibility of consensual encounters or contact.
“I tried to be accessible and inclusive at public events,” he added, noting his frequent participation in press events and book signings.
Brand acknowledged making provocative jokes and sometimes asking casual partners to leave after encounters.
When pressed on specific allegations, Brand refrained from detailing, repeatedly stating he had “nothing further to add.” He emphasized the need for sufficient time to answer questions accurately.
The video surfaced after a jury found Brand guilty of one rape count and three counts of sexual assault. He consistently denied the charges during the proceedings. Following the verdict, the comedian was taken into custody and is set for sentencing on Nov. 9 at Southwark Crown Court in London.
The Metropolitan Police said additional investigations continue into rape allegations by two more women. “The Met’s investigation into allegations of rape made by two women remains ongoing,” a spokesperson confirmed. The case files have been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service with ongoing cooperation.
During the trial, Brand faced multiple charges, including three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of attempted indecent assault involving six women from 1999 to 2009. Brand admitted to using fame for pursuing partners but emphasized the consensual nature of encounters. Consent was described as “fundamental, essential and necessary” by Brand, who denied forcing any sexual activities.
Prior to the verdict, Brand discussed the possibility of imprisonment. He and his wife, Laura Gallacher, addressed this openly. In an Oct. 11 episode of “Sunday Service with The Brands,” Laura read a supportive message from someone with past prison experience.
“You will get through it… The presence of God is everywhere—even in prison,” a supporter wrote.
Brand interrupted, expressing discomfort with the concept of imprisonment. Laura acknowledged incarceration as a possible trial outcome. Brand accepted this, citing it as one of the trial’s challenges. The episode concluded with the couple praying for peace, love, and all involved in the trial.
