Tony Romo’s Future with CBS Remains Uncertain Amid Legal Troubles

The status of Tony Romo with CBS remains uncertain as the network evaluates the situation following his recent arrest. CBS Sports President David Berson stated that “there is no timetable or final decision” regarding Romo’s future with the network.

During the “NFL on CBS” Media Day, Berson addressed questions about Romo, who is currently on indefinite leave. This comes after Romo’s arrest for operating while intoxicated in Wisconsin. J.J. Watt has been appointed as the top analyst for CBS Sports alongside Jim Nantz for the 2026 NFL season.

Romo’s arrest occurred following a golf event when Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office deputies detected impairment during a traffic stop. In response to questions, Berson commented on the personal and legal nature of Romo’s situation. He emphasized the need to assess the impact on CBS’s brand and image.

Romo’s legal challenges include charges of impaired driving, an open alcohol container, and unsafe passing. He holds a lucrative 10-year, $180 million contract with CBS, with $72 million still owed since the agreement in 2020.
