A person attempted to trespass at the cliffside residence of former Vice President Kamala Harris in Malibu last Friday evening, as reported by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and a representative for Harris.
Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not present during the incident, confirmed Eduardo Negrón, Harris’ spokesperson. Negrón did not disclose the couple’s location at the time.
Last night, security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff’s property before the individual reached the home. They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly.
Security staff at Harris’ property notified the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which oversees Malibu. Lt. Jason Duron, the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station watch commander, stated that they were alerted by Harris’ security when a woman approached Harris’ front door. Deputies responded at about 10:30 p.m., and the woman voluntarily left. She was not taken into custody.
Increased Security Measures
Lt. Duron mentioned, “We are stepping up patrols of the property to be safe.”
There has been prior scrutiny of the security arrangements for Harris. Former vice presidents usually receive six months of Secret Service protection after leaving office. However, former President Biden had extended this security. President Trump, who defeated Harris in the 2024 election, terminated the extension in August 2025. This decision prompted law enforcement in Los Angeles and California to take swift action to safeguard Harris.
The Los Angeles Police Department quickly ended its involvement amid criticism, suggesting that reallocating officers to protect the former vice president was impacting crime control efforts. Currently, it is uncertain if the California Highway Patrol remains involved in Harris’ security, or if the recent alert to the Sheriff’s Department came from private security personnel.
