Tropical Depression Champi is moving towards Guam in the U.S. territory of the Northern Mariana Islands, with potential impacts expected this weekend. The storm is also predicted to affect Taiwan and/or Japan in the following days.
As of now, satellite images show Champi approximately 1,000 miles east of Guam. This data was captured on Thursday.
This year has seen unprecedented storm activity across the Pacific due to an exceptional El Niño. Champi could soon intensify, potentially matching or exceeding the strength of the most powerful storms formed globally this year.
