Trump Criticizes NBC Host and Considers Federal Action

Recently, President Donald Trump expressed his intention to report NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ host Kristen Welker to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Trump accused Welker of inaccurately describing his primary endorsement record as having ‘mixed results.’

Trump stated on Truth Social that Welker misrepresented his endorsement success, which he claimed stood at 100% for the U.S. Senate and 98% for the U.S. House. He questioned how such statements could be made on public airwaves and mentioned providing results as evidence. Trump suggested that Welker should face consequences from the FCC for this purported inaccuracy.

In response, NBC News defended Welker, describing her as one of the best in her field. Welker had made the comments during a live appearance on NBC4 Washington, mentioning Trump’s endorsements in primary elections and noting both successes and mixed outcomes. She specifically highlighted the victory of Darline Graham as a recent success while discussing Trump’s influence on upcoming midterms.

Trump’s comments drew criticism from media analysts such as CNN’s Brian Stelter, who saw Trump’s actions as a move to weaponize the FCC against unfavorable media coverage. A Fox News tracker reported Trump’s endorsement wins in 24 Republican Senate primaries and 214 out of 218 House primaries.

Amidst this controversy, Trump urged FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to consider the matter seriously. While the FCC licenses individual stations, not networks like NBC, it requires proof of intentional distortion to take action against broadcasters. Trump argued that outlets were minimizing his high endorsement success rate.

Fox News Digital contacted the FCC for a response but received none immediately. The FCC’s stance on news distortion warns that such actions can impact broadcast license renewals.
