Trump Endorses Mike Lindell in Minnesota Governor’s Race

3 weeks ago 0

Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow, has received President Donald Trump’s endorsement for Minnesota’s governor race, ahead of the August primary election. Lindell, a staunch supporter of Trump, has been outspoken about his claims regarding the 2020 presidential election. He faces a competitive primary, aiming to secure the Republican nomination to challenge Senator Amy Klobuchar, the favored Democratic candidate, in November.

Trump’s Endorsement

Trump expressed his support for Lindell on Truth Social, praising him as a dedicated patriot. Trump stated, “Early Primary Voting has begun and, if given the chance, Mike will be SPECTACULAR! He truly loves Minnesota, as do I, and wants to bring it back from oblivion and embarrassment.” Trump emphasized Lindell’s commitment to election integrity, claiming that “nobody has sacrificed more than Mike Lindell in fighting for our country.”

Trump’s statement read, “Nobody has sacrificed more than Mike Lindell in fighting for our country, especially when it comes to Election Integrity. He truly deserves everything he gets.”

The Impact on Minnesota Republicans

Larry Jacobs, a political scientist at the University of Minnesota, voiced concerns that Trump’s endorsement might hinder Republican efforts to capture the governor seat. He indicated that Lindell is unpopular among independents, a crucial segment for Republicans hoping to succeed. Minnesota Republicans haven’t won a gubernatorial race for two decades and now face the formidable challenge posed by Senator Klobuchar.

Competitive Republican Primary

The Minnesota governor’s race includes other prominent Republican candidates like Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth and businessman Kendall Qualls. A Minnesota Private Business Council survey conducted among 1,601 likely voters showed Demuth leading with 34 percent support, followed by Qualls at 28 percent and Lindell at 24 percent. An additional 15 percent remained undecided, highlighting the race’s competitive nature. A SurveyUSA poll further demonstrated Lindell’s leading position with 27 percent support. A more recent survey from Big Data Poll indicated Lindell at 27 percent, Demuth at 21 percent, and Qualls at 10 percent.

Democratic Front Runner’s Perspective

Klobuchar, in response to Lindell’s ambitions, stated, “Mike Lindell is Donald Trump’s choice. I hope to be Minnesota’s.” Polls suggest Klobuchar remains the front runner with strong approval ratings.

Legal Challenges for Lindell

Lindell, noted for his firm backing of Trump, faces ongoing legal issues stemming from his claims regarding the 2020 election. Formerly facing a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems, Lindell currently contends with a separate case involving Smartmatic.

Immigration Debate Influence

The Minnesota governor race has been dramatically influenced by immigration issues. Governor Tim Walz, a Democrat, decided against seeking re-election amidst criticism of his handling of a fraud scandal and immigration enforcement matters. Trump’s administration’s immigration measures, which included deploying Border Patrol agents, caused significant backlash, highlighted by fatal shootings involving immigration officers.

Historical Voting Trends

Minnesota has maintained a Democratic-leaning stance in past elections. While Republicans have struggled to win at the gubernatorial and presidential levels, their competitive presence persists, shaped by tight margins.

Trump’s Popularity in Minnesota

Trump’s approval rating in Minnesota is low, according to Civiqs’ tracking. As of the latest surveys, the Trump approval rate stands at 32 percent, indicating challenges for Republicans in the upcoming midterms.
